Lesson 2 : A CLOSER LOOK 1
I. OBJECTIVES: * By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to gain the following items:
1. Knowledge:
- Use the lexical items related to the topic City life
- Pronounce the diphthong sounds /aʊ/, /əʊ/, and /eə/ in words and sentences correctly
* Integrated skills: Listening, speaking, reading, writing.
* Vocabulary:
- Gain vocabulary to talk about life in the city
- pronounce the diphthong sounds /aʊ/, /əʊ/, and /eə / correctly in words and sentences;
+ offering help and responding;
* New words: sky train, concrete jungle, metro, public amenities, packed with , bustle (cảnh náo nhiệt ) , crime rates.
* Grammar:
- Comparisons of adjectives (review).To teach “double comparatives”.
- Recognise and use double comparatives and some phrasal verbs;
2. Competence:
- Students will be able to practice listening , speaking, reading and writing skills .
- Be co-operative and supportive in pair work and teamwork.
- Access and consolidate information from a variety of sources.
Digital Competence (1.1.TC2b; 3.1.TC1a): Visual Data Retrieval & Integration.
- Students use Google Image Search with specific keywords and location names to find authentic images for city vocabulary.
- Students insert one suitable image and a one-sentence caption into the group Google Doc for the E-Newsletter.
Digital evidence/assessment: image link/screenshot, source note and caption using target vocabulary; teacher checks image relevance, vocabulary accuracy and source awareness.
3. Personal qualities:

Objectives For students with disabilities
By the end of the lesson, students can:
- recognize and repeat 4 words or phrases: metro, sky train, downtown and public amenities, with teacher's help.
- match 2 city words or phrases with suitable pictures.
- listen and repeat 3 words with the sounds /aʊ/, /əʊ/ or /eə/ after the teacher.
- choose or copy 1 caption for a city picture with teacher's help.

1. WARM UP & INTRODUCTION ( 3’- 5’) |

* Objectives: - To create an active atmosphere in the class before the lesson; - To lead into the new lesson. * Content: To have some warm-up activities to create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere to inspire Ss to warm up to the subject and new lesson. * Expected outcomes: Having a chance to speak English. + Greeting + Teacher (T) asks Ss some questions about the previous lessons, Option 1: Game: Jumble words - Jumble the letters in some words about the city that Ss learnt in Getting started. - Have Ss compete in teams to unscramble them. Lead into the lesson. - Share with Ss the objectives of the lesson by showing them on a projector. Alternatively, write the objectives in a corner of the board and leave them there and tick the objectives off as the class finishes with them.
For students with disabilities Teacher: - Shows word cards from Getting Started: traffic jam, underground, downtown and construction site. - Allows the student to choose or arrange only 2 jumbled words. - Gives the first letter as a clue. Students: - Look at word cards and choose 2 familiar city words. - Repeat the words after the teacher. - Copy one correct word into the notebook. |
