- Play the recording for pupils to listen to the numbers, and familiarise themselves with their stress and intonation.

- Play the recording again for pupils to listen and repeat.

- Remind them to point at the numbers while listening.

- Do this several times until they feel confident.

- Correct their pronunciation where necessary.

- Put pupils into pairs to practise listening, pointing at and repeating the numbers 1 − 10.

- Go around the classroom to offer support.

Activity 3 2. Listen and tick:

*Aims: Ss will be able to listen and identify numbers by ticking the correct boxes.

*Procedure:

- Draw pupils’ attention to the numbers.

- Tell them to listen and tick the correct box under each number while listening.

- Show an example with number three.

- Play the recording and tick the box under the correct number.

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to do the task.

- Play the recording again for them to check their answers.

- Tell pupils to swap their books with their partners, then check answers together as a class.

- Write the correct answers on the board for pupils to correct their answers.

- Play the recording again for pupils to double-check their answers.

- Have Ss to listen and repeat in chorus. Correct their pronunciation where necessary.

Activity 4. Read and match.

*Aims: Ss will be able to read and match the relevant words with numbers.

*Procedure:

- Draw two columns on the board like the input.

- Tell pupils to read the words for numbers and draw lines to match with the target numbers.

- Model: Have pupils read the word in chorus and draw a line to match with number 1.

- Give pupils time to do the task individually or in pairs. Go around the classroom to offer support where necessary.

- Check the answers as a class.

- Invite a pupil to come to the front and draw a line on the board to match the words with the relevant numbers.

Lesson 1 (page 5)

1. Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to follow simple instructions in class.

3. Procedures

A. Warm up (5 minutes)

a. Objectives: To generate students’ interests and lead in the new lesson.

b. Content: Reviewing the colors or playing the “Snake” game.

c. Expected outcomes and assessment

- Task completed with excellence: Students can slap flashcards and say the words correctly.

- Task completed: Students can slap correct flashcards and say the words.

- Task uncompleted: Students can slap flashcards, but mispronounce the words/ say nothing.

Option 1: Review the colors.

- Divide the class into two teams and have them form two lines.

- Place the flashcards on the board, showing the images.

- Call out a word and have the first student from each group race to slap the correct image on the board and say it correctly. The first student to slap the correct flashcard wins a point for their team.

 

- Make two lines to play this game.

 

- Look at the flashcards on the board.

- Carefully listen and run to the board to slap the correct card and read aloud the word on it.

 

Option 2: Play the “Snake” game.

- Have the class stand up and play the game.

- Give the ball to the first student and ask them to begin by saying a color.

- Then the first student passes the ball to any of their friends. The second friend will name another color.

- The students who are unable to say the colors will sit down. The last student who stands up at the end of the game is the winner.

- Lead in the new lesson.

 

- Follow teacher’s instructions before playing the game.

- Play the game with the whole class.

B. Presentation (5 minutes)

a. Objective: To introduce the students some simple instructions in class.

b. Contents: Listening, pointing, and repeating.

- Task completed: Students can identify the new words, but sometimes mispronounce “s” in the phrase “hands up”.

- Task uncompleted: Students are unable to point and read the correct words.

- Play the audio and require them to listen and repeat.

- Help them with their pronunciation if necessary.

- Have the class work in pairs. One student randomly points to the pictures in their book, and the other one says the words. Then have them swap roles and continue this activity.

WARM-UP/REVIEW (5 minutes)

Aim: To help students become familiar with common greetings.

* Greetings

- Say Hello , encouraging students to say Hello in response.

- Ask one student to stand up. Say Hello to him/her. Encourage the student to respond with Hello .

- Point to yourself and say My name’s … Ask a student What’s your name? He / She answers My name’s …

- Say Hello. My name’s … Then, encourage students to do the same in pairs, greeting each other and saying their names.

- Say Stand up! Indicate the class should stand at their seats. Say Sit down! and indicate they should sit down again.

- Play a short game for students to follow instructions. Shout Stand up! and Sit down! several times. The last student to complete the action is “out” each time.

- Evaluate students. Give feedback.

- Elicit students to answer the questions.

- Play the first part of the recording. Hold your book up and demonstrate that you are pointing to the pictures along with the audio. Ask students listen and point to the appropriate picture.

- The first time through, the recording follows the order of the pictures on the page; the second time the order is out of sequence. This is also true in subsequent word presentations.

- Play the second part of the recording for students to point to the pictures and repeat the names.

a. Aims:

To introduce the English Alphabet

To ask and answer questions about the English Alphabet

 

b. Procedure:

Step 1: Have students look at the lead-in picture. Ask Ss the question: How many letters are there in the English Alphabet?

Have Ss count and answer => 26 letters

Step 2: Drill the pronunciation of each letter, have students say the letter loudly.

Step 2: Randomly point to a letter and ask Ss to call out the letter names. Repeat this activity in different ways to maintain the motivating atmosphere.

Suggestion: Say the letter fast/ super slow. Say the letter with an old man/ a baby/ robot voice/ Say the number of that letter in the alphabet, etc.

Step 3: Invite some volunteer students to take the teacher’s role in leading the game.

Practice Activity 1: Guide The Bee Game. ( 8 minutes)

 

a. Aims:

To listen and recognize the sounds of the letter names.

To correctly pronounce the letters in the alphabet.

Step 1: Divide the class into two teams. Introduce the activity to the class and explain the rules.

Listen to the sound. Give the answer by some of the suggested ways: write it on a small bag/ small piece of paper/ run and write to the classroom board/ do the body shape of the letter. Check with your teacher and get your stars.

Step 2:

- Invite some volunteer students to do demonstration for the whole class.

- Encourage that student to say some words starting with the letter.

Step 3:

- Use slides to conduct the next plays of game following step 2

- Provide pronunciation and accuracy check when needed.

Step 4 : Invite some volunteers to take the teacher’s role to lead the game.

a. Aims

To correctly pronounce the letters in the alphabet.

To enhance the orders of letters in the Alphabet

 

b. Procedure

Step 1: Students join the activity in teams. Introduce the activity to the class and explain the rules.

There are 5 squares displayed at a time 4 squares contain the letter, 1 square is empty. Review the alphabet and fill in the missing If students can spell correctly and find the cheese, the get 2 points.

Step 2:

- Invite some volunteer students to do demonstration for the whole class.

Step 3:

- Use slides to conduct the next plays of game following step 2

- Provide pronunciation and accuracy check when needed.

Step 3: Put students in pairs, have 1 student point to a letter, ask “What letter is this?” and the other student answer “Letter ….”


Exercise 2: Listen and chant.

Step 1: Have students look at the task and say aloud the directions. Check comprehension.

Step 2: Play the audio track 0.02 for students to listen and say along.

Step 3: Put students in pairs, tell them to say the chant together with hand clapping.

Step 4: Tell Ss to make the Alphabet chant more fun by performing the chant with body shape.

Step 5: Play the audio track again for Ss to say, perform the chant with pleasure.

a. Aims

To apply the alphabet in a communicative task.

 

b. Procedure

Step 2: Introduce the Bingo Game and facilitate the demo play with students.

- The teacher says a letter each time and if Ss have that letter on the card, they can cross it out.

- If Ss can form a vertical/horizontal/diagonal line with 3 letters crossed out, they win.

Step 4: Have students play bingo game in groups of 5
