UNIT 9: NATURAL DISASTERS

Lesson 4: Communication 

I. OBJECTIVES: * By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

- Use the lexical items related to natural disasters.

- Practise giving and responding to bad news.

1. Knowledge:

+ Vocabulary: Shake (v); Fahrenheit (n); Richter scale (n).

+ Language: Giving and responding to bad news: I’m sorry to hear that….That’s awful.

+ Pronunciation: Stress in words ending in - al and -ous

2. Competence:

a) General competencies:

- Develop communication skills and creativity.

- Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork.

- Actively join in class activities.

b) Specific competencies:

- Group work and independent working, pair work, linguistic competence, cooperative learning and communicative competence.

c) Digital Competence:

NLS1 (3.1.TC2a) Create simple digital learning content under guidance -> practising short dialogues, completing answers, oral reflections

NLS1 (4.1.TC2a) Use digital tools to present and share simple learning products -> role-play practice, reporting answers via shared digital materials

NLS2 (2.1.TC1a) Identify relevant information from given sources -> recognising disaster-related information in dialogues and short texts

NLS4 (4.1.TC2a) Demonstrate awareness of digital safety and responsible use -> protecting devices, respectful use of shared platforms

3. Qualities:

- Develop awareness of Natural disasters. Be concerned to Natural disasters. Have a positive attitude toward shopping places and dream shopping place. Ss have the good attitude to working in groups, individual work, pair work, cooperative learning.
