UNIT 12: LIFE ON OTHER PLANETS

Lesson 6: Skills 2 

I. OBJECTIVES: * By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

+ Listening: Listen about an imaginary planet and its creatures.

+ Writing: Write a paragraph to describe imaginary planet and its creatures.

1. Knowledge:

+ Vocabulary: liquid (n); temperature (n); atmosphere (n); gravity (n); habitable (adj); promising (adj); trace (n).

+ Language: Reported speech (questions); Expressing uncertainty.

+ Pronunciation: Intonation for making lists

2. Competence:

a) General competencies:

- Develop communication skills and creativity.

- Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork.

- Actively join in class activities.

b) Specific competencies:

- Group work and independent working, pair work, linguistic competence, cooperative learning and communicative competence.

c) Digital Competence

3.1.TC2a (Problem Identification): Use the digital textbook audio controls to locate specific information.

5.4.TC2a (Content Creation & Idea Sharing): Interact with a teacher-led AI writing assistant on the projector to analyze and improve paragraph drafts.

3. Qualities: - Be benevolent and responsible. Develop knowledge about other planets. Be ready to express uncertainty. Be interested more about the planets. Ss have the good attitude to working in groups, individual work, pair work, cooperative learning.

II. PREPARATIONS

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP (5’-IW, GW)

a. Objectives:

- To create an active atmosphere in the class before the lesson

- To lead into the new unit.

b. Content:

- Describe the aliens

c. Product:

- Ss know how to describe the aliens

5.4.TC2a: Use an AI image generation tool (like Gemini's image creation feature, Bing Image Creator, or Canva) projected directly on the screen to turn students' vocabulary into artwork.

· Task Delivering: Teacher's Language: "Welcome to the Space Biology Lab! Before we open our books, I need the junior scientists here to help me design a brand new alien. Give me English words to describe its appearance! How many eyes? What colour? Is it fat or thin?"

Have an AI image generator open on your laptop and projected onto the board.

· Task Performance: Students work in pairs very quickly for 1 minute to brainstorm and recall vocabulary for body parts and colors (e.g., three eyes, blue skin, fire hair, four legs).

Groups race to shout out the English words. Commander Thái quickly types these phrases into the AI tool's prompt box directly on the screen (Example: "A friendly alien with three eyes, blue skin, and fire hair, cartoon style").

· Report & Discussion: Click "Generate" and ask the whole class to count down: "3... 2... 1... Launch!".

Display the resulting image generated by the AI. The whole class observes their collective creation.

Invite 1-2 students to briefly describe the picture on the board: "What can this alien do with four legs?" (Expected: "It can run fast").

· Judgement: Teacher's Language: "Wow, your imaginations are amazing! This picture is one of a kind. Now, open your textbooks to page 131. Today we are going to listen to a space explorer talk about a real creature he met. Let's listen and see if it's as cool as the one our class just created!"
