UNIT 8: FESTIVALS AROUND THE WORLD

Lesson 6: Skills 2

I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to gain:

1. Knowledge: - Develop reading skill about an unusual festival

- Develop speaking skill: talking about a festival they enjoy

* Vocabulary: revise vocabulary on types of festivals and festival activities

* Grammar: structures to express disappointment

2. Competence:

* General competencies:

* Specific competencies:

* Integrated Digital Competence

  • NLS1 (1.1.TC1a):Students understand spoken information from digital audio sources.
  • NLS1 (3.1.TC1a):Students select and organise information for writing tasks.
  • NLS3 (3.1.TC2a):Students create a short written text using digital tools.

II. PREPARATIONS

Teacher: Grade 7 text book, laptop, TV, pictures and realia, Computer connected to the Internet. Hoclieu.vn

III. PROCEDURE:

ACTIVITY 1: WARM - UP & INTRODUCTION (5’)

a) Aims:

- To warm up and get Ss’ interest.
- To lead in the new lesson.

b) Contents: Play the game “Our eating habits”

c) Products: Ss’ answers

d) Implementation:

Content

Deliver the task: The teacher will explain the rules of the Bingo game. Each student will receive a piece of paper and draw a 3x3 grid. They will then fill this grid with names of festivals randomly. The teacher will announce: "To help us prepare for today's lesson on festivals, we'll play a quick Bingo game. If you have trouble remembering festival names, you can use your digital devices to quickly search for ideas, but remember to focus on finding names related to our topic." (NLS1: 1.1TC1a - Information seeking). The teacher will also remind students to protect their devices from potential damage (e.g., spills), instructing, "Please keep food and drinks away from your devices." (NLS1: 3.1.TC2a - Device protection).

*Implement the task: Students will individually fill their Bingo grids with festival names. Then, the teacher will call out festival names. Students will mark the names on their grid if they have them. When a student gets three marked names in a row, they yell "Bingo!". This activity practices NLS1 (1.1TC1a) (information recall and application).

* Discuss: The teacher will facilitate a discussion about the festivals called out. Students can share some of the festivals they wrote on their cards and mention if they found any surprising names during the game. The teacher will ask: "Which festival names were most commonly chosen? Did anyone discover a new festival name through this game?" This discussion encourages NLS1 (1.1TC1a) (sharing knowledge) and NLS1 (2.2TC1c) (sharing discoveries).

* Judgement The teacher will confirm the winners and provide feedback on the game's engagement. The teacher will affirm that this activity helps activate prior knowledge about festivals, setting the stage for the reading and speaking skills to be developed (NLS1 (3.1.TC2a) - Responsible participation).
