UNIT 8: FESTIVALS AROUND THE WORLD

Lesson 7: Looking back & Project

I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to gain:

1. Knowledge: - Develop reading skill about an unusual festival

- Develop speaking skill: talking about a festival they enjoy

* Vocabulary: revise vocabulary on types of festivals and festival activities

* Grammar: structures to express disappointment

2. Competence:

NLS1 (1.1.TC1a):Students review and consolidate language knowledge using digital prompts.

NLS3 (3.1.TC1a):Students design visual products (posters) with appropriate images.

II. PREPARATIONS

Teacher: Grade 7 text book, laptop, TV, pictures and realia, Computer connected to the Internet. Hoclieu.vn

Students: Text books, pencils, pics, blank papers, realia,….

III. PROCEDURE:

ACTIVITY 1: WARM - UP & INTRODUCTION (5’)

a) Aims:

- To revise the vocabulary related to the topic and lead in the next part of the lesson.

- To enhance students’ skills of cooperating with team mates.

b) Contents: Play the game “Brainstorming”

c) Products: Type of festival

d) Implementation

Content

Deliver the task: The teacher will divide the class into two teams. The teacher will explain the "Brainstorming" game rules: each team takes turns writing as many types of festivals as possible in 2 minutes. To support vocabulary recall and provide a digital reference, the teacher will suggest students use Hoclieu.vn (if accessible and relevant for festival types) or a pre-prepared Google Doc to quickly note down festival types they know, which can aid their memory during the game. The teacher will ask: "If you need a quick reminder of festival types, where might you look for inspiration?" (NLS1: 1.1TC1a - Information seeking).

*Implement the task:** Members of each team will take turns writing festival types on the board or in the shared Google Doc. Students will work collaboratively within their teams. This activity focuses on NLS1 (1.1TC1a) (vocabulary recall) and NLS1 (2.2TC1c) (collaborative digital input).

*Discuss: Students will first cross-check their answers within their teams. The teacher will then lead a brief class discussion, comparing the lists of festivals generated by each team. The teacher will ask: "Which team found the most types of festivals? Were there any festivals that surprised you or that you hadn't thought of before?" This encourages NLS1 (1.1TC1a) (vocabulary review) and NLS1 (2.2TC1c) (sharing knowledge).

* Judgement: The teacher will confirm the answers and give feedback, declaring the winning group based on the number of correct answers. The teacher will acknowledge the teams' effort and vocabulary recall (NLS1 (3.1.TC2a) - Fair play and participation).
