UNIT 11: Travelling in the future
Lesson 5: Skills 1
I. OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, students are expected to achieve the following objectives:
1. Knowledge:
*Vocabulary:
+ Vocabulary: use words related to the topic “Travelling in the future”
New words: charge , passenger , economical, autopilot; function; (to) run on
* Pronunciation:
- Pronounce the new words correctly: charge , passenger , economical, autopilot; function; (to) run on
* Grammar:
- use the future simple to talk about future activities and make predictions;
- use possessive pronouns correctly;
- make predictions;
2. Competencies:
a) General competencies:
- Group work and independent working, pair work, linguistic competence, cooperative learning and communicative competence.
- Be co-operative and supportive in pair work and teamwork.
- Actively join in class activities.
b) Specific competencies:
- Pratice listening and reading the conversation about “Travelling in the future ”
- Lexical items related to the topic “Travelling in the future”: names of different means of transport..
- Make predictions;
- Read for general and specific information about cars;
- Talk about why a means of transport will / won't be popular;

Activity 1: WARM-UP (5’ - GW/PW/IW) 1. Aim: - To create an active atmosphere in the class before the lesson; - To lead into the new lesson. 2. Content: - Having some warm-up activities to create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere to inspire Ss to warm up to the new lesson. 3. Products: - Interest and concentration of Sts on the class activities. - A friendly and relaxed atmostphere to the new lesson - A chance to speak English and focus on the topic of the lesson.. 4. Implementation: - Teacher instructs - Sts do as required |

Task Delivering: Teacher plays a 10-second GIF of a self-driving car on the screen. Then, teacher projects the picture from Task 1 (a woman relaxing inside a car, not holding the steering wheel). Teacher introduces 5 key words using Hoclieu.vn flashcards: charge, passenger, economical, autopilot, run on. Scaffolding Questions: Weak: Look at the woman in the picture. Is she driving? Where are her hands? Average: What is the car doing if the driver is relaxing? (Elicit the new word: autopilot). Good/Excellent: How does the car know when to stop or turn without a human? (Guide them to think about computers/AI cameras - 6.1TC1a). Task Performance: Ss work in pairs for 1 minute to brainstorm 3-4 words in English describing the picture. Ss write the new vocabulary words in their notebooks and repeat after the teacher's pronunciation. Report & Discussion: Teacher calls on different pairs to shout out one word they thought of (e.g., relaxing, screen, sleep, safe). Judgement: Teacher praises their observational skills, corrects the pronunciation of multi-syllable words (especially economical and autopilot), and transitions into the reading text where they will see these words in action.
