Thì hiện tại đơn là một trong những thì rất căn bản mà chắc chắn bạn phải biết khi học môn tiếng Anh. Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn là thì khá đơn giản nhưng vẫn có những lưu ý để người học có thể sử dụng chúng thành thạo khi làm bài tập.

I. Định nghĩa thì hiện tại đơn

Thì hiện tại đơn (Simple Present hoặc Present Simple) là một thì trong ngữ pháp tiếng Anh nói chung. Thì hiện tại đơn diễn tả một hành động hay sự việc mang tính chất chung chung, tổng quát lặp đi lặp lại nhiều lần hoặc một sự thật hiển nhiên hay một hành động diễn ra trong thời gian ở hiện tại.

III. Dấu hiệu nhận biết thì hiện tại đơn

1. Thì hiện tại đơn dùng để diễn tả những sự việc mà bạn thường xuyên làm, hoặc thói quen của bạn ở hiện tại.

Ví dụ: I go to school every day.

2. Một số dấu hiệu nhận biết thì hiện tại đơn:

• Câu với chữ “EVERY”: Every day (mỗi ngày), every year (mỗi năm), every month (mỗi tháng), every afternoon (mỗi buổi trưa), every morning (mỗi buổi sáng), every evening (mỗi buổi tối)…

• Câu với chữ : Once a week (một lần 1 tuần), twice a week (2 lần một tuần), three times a week (ba lần một tuần), four times a week (bốn lần một tuần), five times a week (5 lần một tuần), once a month, once a year…

• Câu với những từ sau: always, usually, often, sometimes, never, rarely…

LƯU Ý: Khi chủ từ là số nhiều hoặc là I, WE, YOU,THEY, thì động từ ta giữ nguyên.

• Ví dụ 1: I go to school every day.

• Ví dụ 2: Lan and Hoa go to school every day. ( Lan và Hoa là 2 người vì vậy là số nhiều)

- Khi chủ từ là số ít hoặc là HE, SHE, IT thì ta phải thêm “S” hoặc “ES” cho động từ. Với những động từ tận cùng là o, s, sh, ch, x, z, ta thêm “ES”, những trường hợp còn lại thêm “S”.

Ví dụ: watch → watches, live → lives.

- Riêng động từ tận cùng bằng “Y” mà trước ý là một phụ âm thì ta đổi “Y” thành “I” rồi thêm ES.

Ví dụ: study → studies, carry → carries, fly → flies.

IV. Cách dùng thì hiện tại đơn

V. Quy tắc thêm “S” hoặc “ES” sau động từ

- Ở dạng khẳng định của thì hiện tại đơn, với các chủ ngữ ngôi thứ 3 số ít (He/ She/ It), động từ phải thêm “S” hoặc “ES”

- Nguyên tắc như sau:

1. Thêm “S” vào sau hầu hết các động từ

Ví dụ: come – comes; sit – sits; learn – learns;…

2. Thêm “ES” vào sau các động từ kết thúc bằng đuôi CH, SH, X, S, O

Ví dụ: crush – crushes; fix – fixes; kiss – kisses; box – boxes; quiz – quizzes;…

3. Nếu một động từ có đuôi “Y” mà trước nó là một nguyên âm (a, u, e, i, o) thì ta đổi “Y” thành “I” và thêm “ES”

Ví dụ: obey – obeys; slay – slays; annoy – annoys; display – displays;…

4. Nếu một động từ có đuôi “Y” mà trước nó là một phụ âm thì ta giữ nguyên “Y”, thêm “S”

Ví dụ: marry – marries; study – studies; carry – carries; worry – worries;…
