Bài tập về thì quá khứ đơn có đáp án

I. Thì quá khứ đơn là gì?

(Past simple tense) dùng để diễn tả một hành động, sự việc diễn ra và kết thúc trong quá khứ.

Ví dụ:

We went shopping yesterday. (Ngày hôm qua chúng tôi đã đi mua sắm)

He didn’t come to school last week. (Tuần trước cậu ta không đến trường.)

II. Cách dùng thì quá khứ đơn Tiếng Anh

Cách dùng thì quá khứ đơnVí dụ về thì quá khứ đơn
Diễn tả một hành động, sự việc đã diễn ra tại một thời điểm cụ thể, hoặc một khoảng thời gian trong quá khứ và đã kết thúc hoàn toàn ở quá khứ.
  • The bomb exploded two months ago. (Quả bom đã nổ hai tháng trước.)
  • My children came home late last night. (Các con của tôi về nhà muộn đêm qua.)

→ sự việc “quả bom nổ” và “các con về nhà muộn” đã diễn ra trong quá khứ và đã kết thúc trước thời điểm nói.

Diễn tả một hành động lặp đi lặp lại trong quá khứ.
  • John visited his grandma every weekend when he was not married. (John đã thăm bà của cậu ấy hàng tuần lúc còn chưa cưới.)
  • They always enjoyed going to the zoo. (Họ đã luôn luôn thích thú khi đi thăm vườn bách thú.)

→ sự việc “thăm ba” và “thăm vườn bách thú” đã từng xảy ra rất nhiều lần trong quá khứ.

Diễn đạt các hành động xảy ra liên tiếp trong quá khứ.
  • Laura came home, took a nap, then had lunch. (Laura về nhà, ngủ một giấc, rồi ăn trưa.)

→ ba hành động “về nhà”, “ngủ” và “ăn trưa” xảy ra nối tiếp nhau trong quá khứ.

  • David fell down the stair yesterday and hurt his leg. (David ngã xuống cầu thang hôm qua và làm đau chân anh ấy.)

→ hành động “làm đau chân” xảy ra ngay liền sau “ngã cầu thang” trong quá khứ.

Diễn tả một hành động xen vào một hành động đang diễn ra trong quá khứ.

LƯU Ý: Hành động đang diễn ra chia thì quá khứ tiếp diễn, hành động xen vào chia thì quá khứ đơn.

  • When Jane was cooking breakfast, the lights suddenly went out. (Khi Jane đang nấu bữa sáng thì đột nhiên đèn tắt.)
  • Henry was riding his bike when it rained . (Khi Henry đang lái xe đạp thì trời mưa.)

→ việc “đèn tắt” và “trời mưa” xảy ra xen ngang vào một sự việc đang trong quá trình tiếp diễn trong quá khứ.

Dùng trong câu điều kiện loại II (câu điều kiện không có thật ở hiện tại)
  • If you were me, you would do it. (Nếu bạn là tôi, bạn sẽ làm thế.)
  • If I had a lot of money, I would buy a new car. (Nếu tôi có thật nhiều tiền, tôi sẽ mua chiếc xe hơi mới.)

→ việc “bạn là tôi” hay “có thật nhiều tiền” đều không có thật trong hiện tại.

Dùng trong câu ước không có thậtI wish I were in America now. (Tôi ước gì bây giờ tôi ở Mỹ)

→ việc “ở Mỹ” là không có thật trong hiện tại.

Dùng trong một số cấu trúc:

It’s + (high) time + S + Ved It + is + khoảng thời gian + since + thì quá khứ

It is high time we started to learn English seriously. (Đã đến lúc chúng ta phải bắt đầu học tiếng Anh nghiêm túc)
Câu hỏi có thể ở hiện tại hoàn thành những câu trả lời ở quá khứNếu người đưa thư thường đến khoảng giữa 9 giờ và 10 giờ, thì từ 9 giờ đến 10 giờ chúng ta sẽ nói:

→ Has the postman come yet/this morning?

(Sáng nay người đưa thư đã đến chưa?)

Nhưng sau giai đoạn từ 9 giờ đến 10 giờ thì chúng ta sẽ nói:

→ Did the postman come this morning?

(Sáng nay, người đưa thư đã đến rồi chứ?)

Thì quá khứ đơn hay được dùng khi trong câu có for + khoảng thời gian trong quá khứ”. Nếu hành động xảy ra trong một khoảng thời gian và đã chấm dứt trong quá khứ, ta phải dùng thì quá khứ đơn. Còn nếu hành động đó vừa bắt đầu trong quá khứ, kéo dài đến hiện tại và còn tiếp tục ở tương lai, hay kết quả của nó vẫn còn ảnh hưởng đến hiện tại, thì ta dùng thì hiện tại hoàn thành.
  • He worked in that bank for four years. (Anh ta đã làm việc ở ngân hàng đó được bốn năm) ⟶Bây giờ anh ta không còn làm ở đó nữa.
  • She lived in Rome for a long time. (Cô ta đã sống ở Rome một thời gian dài) ⟶Bây giờ cô ta không còn sống ở đó nữa.
  • Have you had breakfast? – No, I haven’t had it yet. (Anh đã ăn sáng chưa? Chưa, tôi chưa ăn)
  • Yes, I had breakfast with my father. (Vâng, tôi đã ăn cùng với bố tôi)⟶diễn tả việc đã xảy ra và kết thúc rồi
Dùng để miêu tả một sự kiện lịch sử.The Chinese invented printing. (Người Trung Quốc đã phát minh ra máy in)
Khi hành động xảy ra một cách rõ ràng ở một thời điểm nhất định ngay cả khi thời điểm này không được đề cập đến.

  • The train was ten minutes late. (Xe lửa đã trễ mươi phút)
  • How did you get your present job? (Anh đã có được việc làm hiện nay bằng cách nào?)
  • I bought this car in Montreal. (Tôi đã mua chiếc xe hơi này ở Montreal)
Thì quá khứ đơn được dùng cho những hành động đã hoàn tất trong quá khứ ở một thời điểm nhất định. Vì thế nó được dùng cho một hành động quá khứ khi nó chỉ rõ thời điểm hoặc khi thời điểm được hỏi đến.When did you meet him? (Anh đã gặp hắn lúc nào?)

III. Các cụm từ thường dùng với thì quá khứ đơn

Hay còn gọi là những trạng từ chỉ thời gian, dấu hiệu nhận biệt của thì QKD:

- from (March) to (June)

- in the (2000, 1980s)

- in the last century

- in the past
